La Chapelle des Bois, Fleurie, Grand Pre, 2018

Super in this vintage - lots of black cherry and berry, a hint of violets, and super-fine fruit tannins. Splendid substance, so could accompany even quite rich food. Winner of a gold medal in the 2019 Concours des Grand Vins de Beaujolais.... Read More

Beaujolais

"…if red wine can be nubile, this red wine is" - Andrew Jefford, in The New France That immediate fruitiness of the Gamay grape, allied to refreshing acidity, moderate alcohol levels - usually 12.5 degrees to 13 degrees - and ability to be served cool (don’t overchill, or you won’t taste anything), makes Beaujolais the definitive summer red. Gamay     Gamay is Beaujolais! Lovely medium to light red wine, with fresh acidity for summer drinking with great potential for ageing in good vintages. Also planted in: the Loire; odd new plantings in New World, e.g. New Zealand

La Chapelle des Bois, Fleurie, Grand Pre, 2018

Super in this vintage - lots of black cherry and berry, a hint of violets, and super-fine fruit tannins. Splendid substance, so could accompany even quite rich food. Winner of a gold medal in the 2019 Concours des Grand Vins de Beaujolais. Now-2023

Cru (from the 10 Cru villages) Beaujolais remains undervalued. The levity and charm of juicy Gamay is out of fashion presumably because people still hold bad memories of thin Beaujolais Nouveau. But with warmer summers the old vines of the region produce deliciously ripe juice. Fleurie has an association with "flowery" - but the best wines can have backbone too.

La Chapelle des Bois, long owned by the Coudert family, has been bought by Frederic Montangeron, a go-ahead guy in Beaujolais. but the former owners' traditional label lives on with this wine.

Absolutely loving the sun case, what a great way to be introduced to new wines.

Just wanted to say thank you so much for sending my order of 2 x Domaine Begude Rosé to my son and daughter-in-law - I couldn't believe that they received it within a day of my placing the order with you. That is IMPRESSIVE, especially given the current trying times.
