Azienda Agricola Boasso

Azienda Agricola Boasso Serralunga, Italy The Boasso family’s cellar, in the tiny hamlet of Gabutti, lies just above the steep slope of their top vineyard, facing the little hilltop village of Serralunga across a deep valley. The cellar is tiny but spotless and perfectly equipped. Nebbiolos from Serralunga have a famed reputation for quality, but also for firm tannins: these Barolos can be...

Azienda Agricola Boasso, Dolcetto D'Alba, 2019

Dolcetto, of Piedmont origin, means "little sweet" but the grape is usually vinified dry. It can be crafted to make diverse styles, from a light, fruity wine for serving chilled to a concentrated, oaked wine for ageing. Here it's unoaked but has plenty of concentration. It's from a small plot of 32 year old vines just north-west of Serralunga. Ripe black fruit scent. Lots of lively fruit flavour - blackberry and blueberry - backed by a bite of tannin. Bold, crunchy, slightly wild, this needs food; think ham or salume, pork belly or duck. Does Italy make the best rustic wines? Discuss while drinking this with bucolic grub such as tagliatelle and wild boar ragu. Now-2023

"This wine was a delightful surprise. I assume Dolcetto will be light, red-fruited and simple. That is not the case here. Boasso - with 32 year old vines - have transformed the varietal into something more serious and impressive, an intense wine full of blackcurrant and cherry with a pleasing tannic bite. This wine will be partnering my platters of cured meat and hearty pasta dishes for the foreseeable future" Michael Peet, SVS

Absolutely loving the sun case, what a great way to be introduced to new wines.

Just wanted to say thank you so much for sending my order of 2 x Domaine Begude Rosé to my son and daughter-in-law - I couldn't believe that they received it within a day of my placing the order with you. That is IMPRESSIVE, especially given the current trying times.
