Seppeltsfield, Cellar No. 9 Muscat, Rutherglen
Screwcap
We haven’t listed an Australian fortified Rutherglen Muscat for years, which is very remiss of us, as this is a great and unique wine style. Only when we came to research our latest purchase did we realise this very wine had been Jancis Robinson’s Wine of the Week in June 2009, accurately described thus:
“Yet just one spoonful of this super-sweet, pale tawny liquid with its suggestion of molten demerara sugar and more than a hint of rancio, that special tang that alcoholic drinkers get from prolonged ageing in wood, would make a huge impact on any palate. In fact there is still quite a bit of tannin in this wine, suggesting it has already been concentrated somewhat by age. I could imagine enormously enjoying sipping it while nibbling walnuts, or possibly some very hard, salty cheese - manchego perhaps”. www.jancisrobinson.com.
Fantastic toffee nectar, so luscious, with floral and vanilla complexities. Can also be served cool.
