El Lagar de Isilla, Ribera Del Duero, Reserva, 2007
This gained a 4-star "highly recommended" rating at a Decanter panel tasting of 2007 Ribera del Dueros. The note from the December 2011 issue of Decanter magazine reads: 'Aromas of wood, liquorice, blackcurrant, violet, prune, cherry and spice. Full, compact palate with excellent fruit intensity. Delicious grainy tannins give a firm structure. High quality, classic Ribera del Duero. 17.63/20.' Now-2014
The Reserva wine from El Lagar de Isilla undergoes malolactic fermentation in new American oak barrels, followed by a period of 18 months' maturation in French oak. Really appealing perfumed and textured fruit. Ripe black fruits, plum, dark chocolate and coffee flavours with hints of violet. Such an expressive, pleasing wine, made exclusively from old vines of Tempranillo, here known as Tinto Fino.
