Domaine Chavet, Menetou-Salon, 2010
Screwcap
"Menetou Salon is a Sancerre outpost that delivers much more sauvignon blanc bang for your buck, yet they are close in style. The Chavets run this 23 hectare domaine. I much enjoyed its verdant, restrained, flowering currant fruit making it a delicious aperitif or fishy first-course white", Jane MacQuitty, The Times Weekend, 50 Best Wines for Summer, 25th June 2011
Very bright pale lemon. Open, citrus perfume. On the palate rich, ripe lemon fruit, integrating seamlessly with a flinty minerality. Entrancingly poised and already drinking well. “Fresh, steely and crisp, but elegant too. The deft creaminess on the palate is balanced out with the bright acidity, highlighting the wine's lovely sour bite. 90/100” www.winegang.com, May 2011. Now-2013
The bubbly Marie-Lise and husband Phillipe can trace winemaking in the Chavet family back to the 17th century, and now run a 23 hectare domaine. The wine here, with its distinctive belle époque label, is perenially very correct, with an impressive mineral steeliness. Continuing a run of successful vintages, this won a Ligier d'Or at Angers in February.
