Cape Chamonix, Pinot Noir Reserve, Franschhoek, 2008
In Stock Now!
Soft colour. Perfumed, with red fruit overliad by coffee oak. Both juicy and velvety, this is a really classy Pinot with (by Cape standards) considerable ageing potential. Only an appealing framboise note gives it away as a New World Pinot.
Cape Chamonix is an estate with vineyards above Franschhoek, running
from 380 to 600 metres in altitude - and the Pinot vines benefit from being the highest. The youthful-looking Gottfried
Mocke has been winemaker here since 2001, which makes him a veteran by
Cape standards. He trained in Germany (with visits to Burgundy), but
has additional experience at Trevallon in Provence and Rex Hill in
Oregon.
